Leaving LA up the Hwy5 to Lost Hills then West on 46. After coming across HWY46 past the James Dean memorial a stop at Paso Robles at the 101 for lunch
Finally we arrive at our Motel destination in Carmel.
room view sitting down
There you go standing up.
Our first evening out was to Clint's old bar & restaurant 'The Hogs Breath"
Although much the same layout and decor from back as far as 1978 the new owners have taken it up market somewhat with more on food than drinks.
An old barn spotted in Carmel Village
OK its a little hazy the first morning trip to the Carmel beach
the big thing that struck me was what a lot of sand. I think last time we were up here some 7 years ago there was hardly a beach
Pebble Beach Golf course in the distance
rather artistic I thought in Carmel
in one of the gizmo shops in Carmel, yes Facebook friends beware!
Nice old Olds parked on the street in Carmel
We spotted this Vesuvio's in the day and decided to give it a try the second evening
We were not disappointed the food was good and a big bonus is the bar and fire pits on the roof.
Outside lounge area above Vesuvius, great place!
A drive down the Big Sur Coastline and of course over the famous Bixby Bridge
Little Sur River Beach
And to the left the mountains above us
Coast Guard Station Little Sur
Now at Big Sur River in, lets have a wander around.
The river that runs out back has all of these wooden chairs that you can sit in and cool your feet off as the water runs thro them.
The ultimate relaxing experience!
Wow now what the heck is that bird called?
Just a ways past Big Sur River Inn is Ventana Inn on the left, a twisty drive up a private road and here is this restaurant with good food and spectacular views, what better place for lunch.
View from our outside table.
I chose the barbecued hamburger, and washed it down with a Stella, it was great!
Looking in the opposite direction to the ocean!
Outside the restaurant there is an arts and crafts shop with some nice examples in the yard
An artist's expression of Bixby bridge
Ventana actually looks down on another good stop off , Nepenthes restaurant and arts shop. its on the right hand side of the road right after Ventana turn off.
Lunch was good!
back on the road up highway 1 towards Monterey again
The next stop right after Bixby Bridge on the left is "The Rocky Point Restaurant".
Indoors or outside it has incredible views
